The joys and challenges of motherhood while being married to a physician.

About Me

About Me

Hello, I’m Melissa!

During the summer of 2017, I moved to Las Vegas, Nevada from Arizona. My first night in Vegas was spent in the county jail. However, I was not there for any reason you may be thinking of… I had started a new job working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the jail! Later that same week, I met my husband, Kyler. Not in the jail though, rather at church my first Sunday in town. We started dating and were married six months after meeting each other! That is where we started our family and later moved from to start our medical school journey.

Through Med School and Beyond

We moved to Reno, Nevada for Kyler to start medical school in 2020. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine in May of 2024. In between those four years, we grew our family with a daughter and son. Shortly after graduation we moved to Alabama, where I was born, for Kyler to complete a four year long neurology residency. We saw an opportunity to live closer to my family and we sought after it. I’m grateful for it.

I’ve been an LPN for over seven years working in urgent care, addiction medicine, and corrections. I stopped working full time as an LPN once I became a mother. Someday, I would like to continue my education to become a Registered Nurse (RN). Right now, I love being at home with my two young children. Although I’m not currently working full time as a nurse, I feel like I get to still use a lot of my nursing skills while being a mom including: cleaning up bodily fluids, responding to cries like answering call lights, administering medications to my kids when they’re sick, and applying bandages to ouchies and boo boos.

My Goals

I love writing and was inspired by my own personal experiences to create this blog. This is me sharing my journal with the world. To the mothers who may feel alone and for those who sometimes feel neglected while being married to a busy spouse, know you are not alone and it gets easier. I hope this blog can create a sense of community for others to relate to and bring hope to others going through difficult things. My current goal in life is to survive the next four years of my husband in residency along with my two kiddos!

Fun Facts

Other people’s birthday is my favorite holiday. Making DIY crafts is my favorite hobby. Megan Fox and I have the same thumbs. I could watch the American version of The Office everyday and I quote it often. I enjoy evening walks with my family. I love Jesus Christ and His gospel. I have moved a lot throughout my life and I see more moves in my future once Kyler completes his medical training. We’ll see though!
